Vilification of carbon offsets as a “licence to pollute” threatens to stymie growth in soil carbon capture just as it starts to take off and could hobble agricultural innovation more broadly, AgriProve boss Matthew Warnken warns.
CERES TAG chief executive David Smith says farmers might initially buy its smart tags to prevent stock theft or increase efficiencies in mustering, but nearly all of them end up using it to drive a decarbonisation strategy.
“They realise they can see what lands are being grazed properly, what animals are most efficient, and predict methane from the pasture feed intake,” he says.
