As the adoption of agricultural innovation becomes more prevalent than ever, new technology brings with it the benefits of new insights, less labor required and increased efficiency. For ranchers, GPS ear tags are one innovation that is solving these issues and beyond.
South Dakota State University is putting this tech to the test at its Cottonwood Field Station in Jackson County, S.D.
“We’re specifically utilizing these tags on our bulls,” explained Jameson Brennan, SDSU Extension livestock grazing specialist. “The real-time location data can help ensure that the bulls remain with the intended cow herd, not over in the neighbor’s herd.”
